IMG_3466
Are you interested in the dynamic worlds of architecture, engineering, construction or operations?
Step into the captivating realm of Tantek 4D, a dynamic digital engineering company and high-potential startup that has taken Ireland, the UK, and Europe by storm.

Tantek 4D offers a wealth of experience in services such as Geospatial Surveying, BIM Modeling and Management, as well as Digital Twins for the built environment! But that’s not all – over the next 18 months, this growing team is set to create 30 new job opportunities in Sligo and their thriving office at the Guinness Enterprise Centre, right in the heart of Dublin City!

Today, we are thrilled to unveil our unique 4D model rendition, showcasing a day in the life of engineers at Tantek 4D, where we integrate cutting-edge technologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Geospatial Surveying, and Digital Twins. While we may not possess the same level of expertise in these intricate arts as our interviewees, we are dedicated to offering you an exclusive sneak peek into their captivating world!

Let’s start by introducing our interviewee’s!

Tamara: I am Tamara Barahona, a Senior BIM (Building Information Modelling) Engineer. I work on modelling and coordinating MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) over different kind of buildings such as pharmaceutical and data centres from 2D format to get construction and coordination drawings.

Jorge: I am Jorge Ferraro, a BIM/VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Engineer. I receive projects from clients with diverse scopes that require solutions. These projects encompass a range of tasks, including creating 3D models, and transforming 3D animations into 4D models. At present, I am in the process of integrating data from multiple sources to formulate distinct models.

It sounds like Tantek 4D is on an impressive growth trajectory. How long both of you have been in your current roles at Tantek 4D?

Jorge: 1 year and 4 months.

Tamara: I have been working for the company for the last 2 years, starting as a BIM Engineer and moving to Senior around 8 months ago.

What does a typical day look like to you?

Tamara: I wake up around 7 in the morning and either go to the office around 8 or stay at home working remotely. After work, I usually go to the gym and organize any kind of activity with friends, but it consists mainly in going for pints to different pubs.

Jorge: I usually just wake up and have a 15 min walk to the office.

Would you say you are a morning or an evening person?

Tamara: I am definitely an evening person

Jorge: I get more done in the morning. But I wouldn’t say I’m a morning person

How has it been adjusting to working in office again?

Jorge: It hasn’t been difficult since we have such a flexible arrangement, we just can come and go to the office as best suits. The location of the GEC is very close to where I live so I can get to the office by walking. All of the GEC Staff are very nice, and everything is perfectly clean and well maintained.

Tamara: Hybrid is such a nice way of working, as it’s good to work remotely but also nice to go to the office some days to meet your colleagues and friends. I think this is the best way of coming back to the office.

Working in the GEC has been the best way of going back to office, as everyone in the building is willing to help whenever it’s needed.

It is a great place to go to work, meet people, go to events that are organized in the building, etc.

My personal favourite is getting a chance to sit and chat with people from all around the GEC building at lunch time. If you could eat one meal at lunch for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Jorge: Pizza

Tamara: Milanesas with fries!

Okay Tamara – milanesas and fries are on the menu today in the GEC café. If you could sit down for this lunch with anyone you want (living or dead), who would you choose?

Tamara: Sigmund Freud. I am so interested in the psychoanalysis and people’s behaviours.

Let’s explore your typical days a bit further back in time. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Tamara: When I was a child, I wanted to be a pastry chef, but when I grew up, I started liking the constructions and architectural area.

Jorge: I wanted to work in something related to movies (not acting)

How did those childhood dreams develop? What was your first job ever?

Tamara: My first job was in my country, Argentina, in Cordoba (the city where I studied). I worked in the ministry of public services as an intern; reviewing, calculating and approving cities/town’s public services layouts and calculations, sewage treatment plants, etc.

Jorge: I started as a BIM Technician at AEC Resource, a company based in Cordoba, Argentina.

What a journey to your current careers! Could you tell us a bit more about the education and careers that brought you to Tantek 4D.

Tamara: I am a Civil Engineer, graduated in Cordoba, Argentina. My main job before working in Tantek 4D was in a company called Voyansi, based in Cordoba, where I learnt most of the things I knew about BIM before coming here, and that helped me get this great job now in Tantek.

Jorge: I got my Architect degree from the National University of Cordoba. Since I started working in BIM before getting my degree I mostly worked on this field, filling a wide variety of roles in many different projects/typologies/scopes.

I’ve also started a programming technical degree in the National Technology University of Argentina. Since I relocated to Ireland, I couldn’t complete the last year to get the degree. But this helped me a lot to get into development areas within the Construction/BIM field.

Why did you choose this career path?

Tamara: I have chosen this career path because we optimize time and wastes on construction and sites doing BIM, but it doesn’t always feel like a job – I really enjoy doing it.

Jorge: It allowed me to work on a highly creative field in which I could potentially use technology on a daily basis to create new solutions to different problems.

Do you have a favourite project you have worked on?

Tamara: I would say all the projects I worked in for Tantek have been interesting, as all of them had their own challenge. Some of them because they were the first time I worked in a building like that (such as data centers), others because I had to go to site for the first time in a job and see in reality what I have been working on digitally.

Jorge: Not really, I like change so I’m happy joining any project that implies a technical challenge.

Speaking of technical challenges, can you each share the greatest challenge you’ve faced in your role?

Jorge: Constantly learning new skills and standards to go further into client requirements.

Tamara: I had many challenges at the same time in this particular role. Even when I worked in this role before in Argentina, it is completely different and challenging to work in a country where the mother tongue its different to mine, the rules are different, the software’s are different, and the people treat you different (and in this last point, I would like to highlight that it has been different in a really positive way)!

Amongst all these challenges, what do you like most about working with Tantek 4D?

Tamara: For me, the great communication and understanding with the Directors is the main behaviour that makes the company feel like we are all working together towards the same purpose. I feel free to share my knowledge and to train and learn a lot, while we do our best to achieve the company’s goals. From the beginning I felt that the company and myself were aligned in what we were looking from each other, without any inconvenience, and even when the ideas or purpose changes, I still feel it’s so easy to reach to agreements to align them.

Jorge: The people and management team. Even though the company continues to grow, the heads of the company are really invested in making sure all the employees are comfortable with their jobs. They help with anything, in their possibilities, to any personal matter.

What I like the most is the environment that we have in the company – starting from the directors to the last person working for Tantek creating it. It is so easy to work in a company with people willing to help and make the day to day easy and nice to share.

– Tamara

It’s wonderful to hear how well Tantek 4D aligns with both of your values and aspirations. What advice would you give someone looking to get into a similar role?

Tamara: I think that one of the most important strengths to get into a role like this is to be proactive. It is important to keep learning, get trained and to be up to date with new software’s and technologies. You don’t need to know everything as we are learning all the time, but it is valuable to be willing to learn, by yourself and from everyone in the area.

Jorge: Learn and understand the basics. There is no need to be an expert to start working. Experience will do the rest.

Is there anything else you want people to know about you or Tantek 4D?

Tamara: I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to work for Tantek if you have the chance to!

Jorge: Is there anything else you would like to know about us?

What are your guilty pleasures?

Jorge: Junk food

Tamara: I like to be revealed the end of the movies before watching them.

Well I gave you one spoiler at the beginning – Tantek 4D is full a learning, opportunities, insightful challenges and a strong company culture. With people joining from all around the world, in areas such as digital automation, digital project management, artificial intelligence, machine learning and geospatial surveying, it’s a no brainer to want to join their team.

Apply today to work with Tamara and Jorge at Tantek 4D and have a similar day in the life in the heart of Dublin at the Guinness Enterprise Centre!
